There should be an increase in solar activity.  Now if the clouds here would just go away.  :-)

MORE SUNSPOTS, LESS QUIET: The sun has been quiet for much of the past month. This could change as two new sunspots emerge over the sun's eastern limb.
These new sunspots aren't very large, but at least one of them is active. The dark cores inside the uppermost circle are growing, and on June 4th they unleashed a C8-class solar flare.
Yes, that's right. The sun is so quiet that a C-class flare is newsworthy.
In fact, the C8-class flare of June 4th was almost 10 times stronger than any flare in the past month. This represents a genuine uptick in solar activity. If the development of the sunspot proceeds apace, genuinely strong flares could be in the offing. Stay tuned for less quiet.

After another long spell without good viewing skies I finally caught a break today.  I will see if I can come up with some descent images out of the 25 videos that I shot today.  My partner in crime, Mike, is still on his holiday in Europe so he won't be able to help out until July.  I miss his great images and I am sure you do too.

Here is a start.  A very long filament -

Here is a nice stretch of proms that I observed today.  The first image shows the wide filament that is producing them. -

The long filament again with the shorter one below (Taken with the DMK-41, no Barlow). -

The lower sunspot I believe to be AR2356.  I haven't found a designation for the upper spot. -

AR2356 -

AR2355 in upper left of the image.

Finally!  It wasn't  the greatest day for imaging but it was way better then any day that I have had lately.  :-)  I have several videos to evaluate but here is a starter image.

AR2339 & AR2340 -

AR2335 & AR2337  Above long filament -

Closer in on AR2339 (Inverted) -

The only big prom Hay Stack) that I spotted today, opposite AR2335 -

Here's hoping for more and better imaging days.  :-)

My partner Mike will be going away on holiday soon and hopefully my skies will clear so that I can provide more solar images.  Mike has been doing a wonderful job getting great solar images in the last few weeks.  Right at this moment the sun has gone quiet but hopefully the solar activity will pick up by this weekend.  See this article titled 'Quiet Sun' on Space Weather.com.  http://spaceweather.com/

This could be my last post until July as I will be a long way away from my scopes for the next couple of months . Hopefully Bill's sky's clean up soon , I am missing his images !
